Recession - The Best Time to Learn a Language!

business_communication_worldwide.jpgPeople worldwide are missing out on jobs because of their inability to speak languages other than their own. Leonard Orban, the EU commissioner for multilingualism, says that small- to medium-sized companies are increasingly turning to those that speak more than one language to fill jobs. Do people need to learn a second language? You tell me!

In recessionary times, it's even more important to keep improving and to consider learning a second language. Now is the time to be upskilling yourself. The ability to speak a second language puts your business or your job prospects one step ahead of the competition. You are also demonstrating to future employers that you have what it takes to stick to something. Employers realise that people who embark on language learning have some key characteristics that are highly valued in such times: commitment and dedication being some key ones.

The reasons people give for not learning a language include lack of time, the cost involved and the difficulty of the subject area. Part of what makes knowing a language a great skill to have is simply because it's not that easy for someone to acquire fluency. If it was, it would quickly lose it's value and won't be treasured as much.

Let's think about it this way. What if you manage to land a big business deal in Asia or Europe, or secure a great job, because you speak a second language? What if you get yourself out of a sticky situation in a foreign country because you speak the local language? What if you find the love of your life as a result of your language learning journey? I've certainly seen these things happen.

The economy may be going through recessionary times, but your personal life shouldn't. This is the time to be preparing yourself for the next boom.

Begin learning a second language today or why not help us promote second languages!

The advantages of learning online.
geek_anime_girl.jpgThere are many advantages to taking an online course such as ours.

In fact, so many learners do prefer online learning to the traditional, and more restricted, classroom learning:
  • You can study from anywhere in the world.
  • You can study at your own pace.
  • You can review less familiar concepts and skim over well-known material.
  • You feel confident that the information is well-learned and can be "re-learned" at any time.
  • You can start or finish the course whenever you want.
  • You have more contact with your tutor than on a regular course with the trainer or lecturer. (You can email me or skype me any time)
  • You will have meaningful interaction with others taking the course. (This is very true within En101!)
  • The online course is less stressful, there is no time pressures, and you can work during your peak hours (whether 10:00 am or 10:00 pm).
  • The interactive components of an online course will give you immediate response or feedback. (Try our quizzes and interactive lessons; they are fantastic!)
  • You will develop a more open attitude toward new ideas and viewpoints.
  • An online course has lower course fees — not to mention the savings in travel, and the time off work that you would have to take to complete an "in-class" course. (All you need is an Internet connection and all the family can study!)
